Khaleej Times Clip Reflection

My reflection on the video clip about the mother and daughter selling pineapple is that we must learn to be more creative and innovative if we want success to come into our lives. In the beginning of the video clip it clearly shows the effect of poverty and how the mother and daughter worked hard every day by selling fruits for a living. I am also impressed how the mother raised her daughter by letter her daughter experience how to work in order to live and not spoil her with everything. I am amazed because the mother has taught her daughter not only how to make a living but also very good values and instead of complaining, her daughter is happy on what she is doing. Most kids today will surely complain if their mother asked for help because most mothers spoil their children by giving them everything because they believe if they give their children all they need without even working for it, it would make them good parents but instead they are making their children lazy and spoiled. I can see in the video clip that while the daughter is peeling the pineapple, she is happy in what she’s doing and being happy while doing a task will surely make the product more good. In the part that the daughter is looking at her classmates buying ice cream and her mother wanted to buy her too but she doesn’t have enough money, I really felt sad for the mother because she cannot give her daughter an ice cream but it is also a wise decision not to spend money on unnecessary stuffs because they have to prioritize their basic needs. The mother felt guilty that she cannot give her daughter an ice cream but instead of blaming herself, she used her creativity and made her daughter happy by giving her a chilled pineapple in a stick. In the present, most children cry when they don’t get what they want and sometimes the mother has no choice but to buy them what they want or scold them to stop the crying. Most mothers just buy things their children wants without even thinking that they could just use their creativity and innovate something new that their children would like even better than the things they wanted. The daughter gave the mother an idea in making the chilled pineapple and the mother gave the daughter an idea to sell the iced pineapple. An idea is very important because an idea can either be ignored or flourished in order to create a new innovative idea. When the daughter had the idea of selling the chilled pineapple, without doubt she immediately went to the market and tried to sell them. I learned in this part that when an idea comes into my mind, I should think positively and use the idea. An idea must be used and not just stored in the brain. I learned in this part that I should not be afraid in testing my ideas and applying them in the real world. I also realized that nothing will be lost if I try a new idea to innovate something. After the daughter tried to sell the chilled pineapple in the market, no one bought a single piece of her iced pineapple and asked for advice from her mother. In this part I learned that when we fail, we must not quit but instead we ask for feedback and advice from other people on how to improve or fix the failure. Self-confidence also plays a vital role because when you have an idea and you don’t have the confidence in applying the idea, the idea will be useless and wasted. The daughter observed how the vendors in the market sell their goods and learned some new techniques from them such as attracting more customers by making a good offer and describing their goods and to make the customers interested in their goods. I learned in this part that I must learn to adapt to my surroundings in order to apply my idea. After the daughter learned some new techniques, another idea has come into her mind. In life, we must never stop making new ideas but instead we make a chain of ideas that are connected to each other.  After the daughter applied what she learned from the vendors, her chilled pineapple suddenly got liked by many people and her mother got happy because her daughter learned from experience and solved problems on her own. The mother got confident because she saw the potential that her daughter possesses. The daughter has succeeded because she reflected on her failure.

Self-reflection begins with a simple process of examining one’s thoughts and actions; however this is just one important step for inventing new practices and approaches. While always seen as an individual endeavor, self-reflection is also a critical skill for developing commitment to shared goals. To create a culture of innovation, opportunities for self-reflection are crucial in order to reconsider the assumptions that are made about life, about the needs and potential of the very idea in which we live, and ultimately beliefs about what will make life better. In the video the daughter never gave up even though she didn’t succeed in her first try. Sometimes we ask ourselves, how do I fit in this community? Are the customer’s needs being met? Is this life what I want it to be? The way each person responds to these questions informs individual character, outlook, motivations and even every day behavior. But over time, it is often easy to stop asking these questions and simply uphold those previously formed responses as the natural and necessary way to think and act. Also the daughter bravely shared her idea instead of asking questions that will distract her. I learned that old responses begin to justify work and goals, creating an innovation require true courage or sometimes upheaval in order to question and change.  Self-reflection encourages adjusting beliefs and behaviors as our understandings change over time. Innovation is the primary lesson in the video clip. Innovation is a new idea, more effective device or process. Innovation can be viewed as the application of better solutions that meet new requirements, unarticulated needs, or existing market needs. This is accomplished through more effective products, processes, services, technologies, or ideas that are readily available to markets, governments and society. The term innovation can be defined as something original and more effective and, as a consequence, new, that "breaks into" the market or society. The daughter applied innovation in order to sell her chilled iced pineapples for a purpose, to earn money and help her mother in her business. In business, innovation is the catalyst to growth. With rapid advancements in transportation and communications over the past few decades, the old world concepts of factor endowments and comparative advantage which focused on an area’s unique inputs are outmoded for today’s global economy. In addition, entrepreneurs continuously look for better ways to satisfy their consumer base with improved quality, durability, service, and price which come to fruition in innovation with advanced technologies and organizational strategies. As we can see from the video clip innovation is really related to economics and business. It’s like the source of new businesses, like the daughter who starter her own business by using innovation. There are several sources of innovation. It can occur as a result of a focus effort by a range of different agents, by chance, or as a result of a major system failure. In the case of the daughter that sold pineapple, she learned from a failure then created the innovation. I also learned that we must love what we are doing because if we love what we are doing and we are enjoying it, the outcome or the result will be good and the customers will be happy. I also reflected that to achieve success, we must always never give up and do everything we can in order to achieve our dreams. In the video the mother and daughter sold fruits because they are near in the market. I learned that if you want to start something, start with your surroundings because it is easier. I also noticed that the mother still can send her child to school even though she is not earning a lot, she still can send her daughter to school and that is a very decision for the mother. The mother’s priority is for her daughter to go to school and she work very hard in order to send her daughter to school and hopefully raise them from poverty. Aside from the lessons that the daughter can get from school, the mother also teaches her daughter about values and how to work in order to earn and survive. It is really important the parents not only depend on lessons that their children get from their school but also teaches them at home because the home is the foundation of learning and the parents must do their part to teach their students about manners and values so that when they grow up or go to school, they can apply it in the real world. I also learned that when someone didn’t finished school it doesn’t mean that they got no abilities and talents and they cannot teach someone. In the video, even though the mother didn’t finished studying she taught her daughter well by teaching her values and hard work which is very important than any other knowledge in this world. The mother also put her fruit cart near the school because there are many customers there and she can watch over her daughter. Family is always the first priority before anything else; the mother could have sold her fruits in other places like the market. But the mother chose to sell her fruits near the school in order to be near and watch over her daughter. I felt the love of her mother even in that simple way, when you know that your parent is just outside your school is really a good thing when you are studying. When the mother saw her daughter and can’t buy the ice cream, she felt really bad and started innovating. I also noticed that her daughter uses a smaller and less sharp knife in slicing the pineapples to avoid her getting cut and sliced; the mother really cared for her daughter. Mothers will always do everything to protect their daughters and not allow any harm to come to them. I also learned that bonding with the family is very important because it makes relationship between family members strong and through this unbreakable bond we share our love to each member of the family. The mother and daughter is not only working while they do their slicing and selling, they also increase their bond and love for each other which is more important than any other thing in this world. The bond of a mother and daughter is unbreakable. The mother also got the inspiration in innovating the iced pineapple from the ice cream because she wanted to satisfy her daughter’s wants not in an expensive way but much even better and creative way. Sometimes, we cannot get everything we want and get mad to our parents but we really don’t know how sad our parents feel when they can’t give it to us. I really  learned to value my parents efforts just to give me my daily needs and I also learned how to appreciate more the things that my parents give to me even though sometimes I can’t say thank you to everything that they had given to me, I am still really thankful that they are my parents. I also learned to avoid buying things I really don’t need because I am wasting my parent’s money that they have worked hard for just to earn it. I really feel bad for just wasting money on nonsense stuffs and some people don’t have enough just to buy food for their families. I also learned to be content on what I have because all that I have came from my parents and they worked hard for it and I have no right to complain on what I get. I also reflected that I should buy some fruits instead of buying ice cream because fruits give us more vitamins and minerals and refresh our minds and bodies. I also learned to patronize our own products because it would really help our own countrymen and help make the economy of our country good. I also learned to donate to charity because I could help kids like the daughter with great skills and potential finish her study. Unconditional love is known as affection without any limitations, it can also be love without conditions. This term is sometimes associated with other terms such as true altruism, or complete love. Each area of expertise has a certain way of describing unconditional love, but most will agree that it is that type of love which has no bounds and is unchanging. It is a concept comparable to true love, a term which is more frequently used to describe love between lovers. By contrast, unconditional love is frequently used to describe love between family members, comrades in arms and between others in highly committed relationships. An example of this is a parent's love for their child; no matter a test score, a life changing decision, an argument, or a strong belief, the amount of love that remains between these bonds is seen as unchanging and unconditional.  Even though the daughter is still a child I can say that she is already and entrepreneur. Entrepreneurship is the process of starting a business, a startup company or other organization. The entrepreneur develops a business plan, acquires the human and other required resources, and is fully responsible for its success or failure. Entrepreneurship operates within an entrepreneurship ecosystem.
I will share with you some of the steps they took in order to become, despite their young age, very successful.

1. Find a cause:
The first thing one must do is find a purpose, or define a vision for him or herself. And that is because if one does not know where one is going, one will never get there. In order to find a cause and define a vision for yourself, ask yourself these questions:
· What am I passionate about? What are my talents?
· What does the world need? And how can my talents help solve a specific need?
· What do I want to be known for?

In the case of the daughter, she is still a child and still can’t answer these questions but she did it because she needs to in order to help her mother so her cause is really to help her mother.

2. Surround yourself with great people:
The second thing one must do is to get surrounded by the right people that would help instead of distract. Being surrounded by great people is really a good advantage because they are really important. In the case of the daughter, she is with her loving mother and her mother has taught her well not only in the aspect of hard work but also values that are very important to learn as a child because values mold everything from conduct, attitude and how the child deal with other people.
3. Take action:
The old adage knowledge is power is wrong. At least, partially wrong. You can have the greatest ideas in your head, but if you don’t put them into practice, they become worthless. The true mark of success lies in having the courage to invest emotionally, physically and financially in your idea. What is preventing you from taking action? What ideas, visions, are you keeping for yourself? Write them down and design a schedule that will help you implement them, little by little. In the case of the daughter in the video clip she immediately took action when she got the idea because ideas are supposed to be done not stored in the brain for a long time.
4. Turn the bad into good:
Rejection is a part of our everyday lives: often a phone call does not go through; a relationship turns sour; an investment does not pay off, and so forth. Instead of dwelling on the negatives, successful entrepreneurs have learned how to find strength in the highs and the lows, ups and downs. When you face a challenging situation or rejection, know that those challenges can be used to help you go even further. Don’t put your dreams in the backburner because things didn’t play out the way you wanted them to. The daughter in the video clip got rejected by the people in the market but instead of quitting, she used it as an inspiration to do better and improve what she has done. Sometimes when we have a bad day we must always remember it is just a bad day, not a bad life.
5. Never, ever give up:
As important as knowing which direction to go to is your ability not to give up until you reach your goals. When obstacles appear; when calls aren’t returned, remember what brought you to where you are, in the first place. It would make no sense for you to give up now. Keep pushing. Keep striving. Keep facing the sun. For each rejection, ask yourself, What can I do differently? What can I learn from this situation? Finally, say to yourself: I am bigger than this. In the story the daughter never gave up even though she got rejected. The daughter has graduated from college because she never gave up even though they are greatly affected by poverty. We must make the story as an inspiration in our lives to never give up on our dreams and always thing positive in order to achieve our goals.
The daughter succeeded in the end, but what does it take to be successful? Success begins with a personal dream that is bigger than the dreamer. There is success achieved through sheer force of will and success that brings peace of mind and authentic joy. Achievements that create a better world bring authentic joy to the achiever.
Here are twelve reflections on achieving success with authentic joy.
1. There is more to success than reaching goals
Success must also include a joyful appreciation of living–an authentic joy that pulls us toward the next episode of our life’s purpose. The daughter really enjoys what she does because when she reached her goal by selling her pineapples she didn’t stopped but instead she continued to pursuit success.
2. The ultimate recipe for achievement
It is working cooperatively with others to improve the quality of life for all.
Cooperation is really the recipe to achieve success because no one achieved success just by his own we all need someone to help us achieve it and guide us to the right path. In the video clip the mother guides her daughter to success.
3. To get where we want to go,
We need to be honest about where we are now.  We must always know our standing in life and the goals that we want to achieve. We must always stay focused on our goal in life because it will serve as a guide. In the video when the daughter discovered that she has a potential in business, she already knew what path she will take when she will be given a chance to go to college. She took a business degree because ever since she was still a child she already liked business because it is what they do with her mother.
4. No action is too small; no choice is insignificant.
Together they are the brush strokes that create the final masterpiece of our design. Never underestimate small actions because without them there can be no big actions. Every choice we do in our lives is very important because our future will depend on that choice. In the story when the daughter tried to sell her pineapples that action was small but when her idea became successful her small action has resulted in big results.
5. Life is not just reaching peaks.
Part of it is moving from one peak to the next.  If you rest too long in between, you might be tempted to quit.  Leave the past in the past. Climb the next mountain and enjoy the view. This means that we should never stop being creative and continue dreaming and achieve more goals in life. Life is short, make the most of it. The most important goal in life is happiness. In the video the daughter achieved her first goal from her idea being a success and then she didn’t stop and dreamed for another goal and succeeded in her goal of finishing college.
6. Persistence is a common foundation
Beneath the achievements of every successful man and woman. Persistence also means not giving up and continuing to achieve success even though we encounter failures and trials, we must remain persistent in our goal to achieve success no matter what happens. We must not lose hope when we fail and continue to strive harder until we succeed.
7. It is more naive to risk nothing
Risk nothing and gain nothing than to risk failure and gain experience. Nothing will be lost if we try something new in fact we gain experience from failures because they
Are the ones who teach us to be more mature and to grow up. A child never learns to walk
without falling down. In the video when the daughter tried to sell her pineapples he risked 3 pieces of her pineapples but unfortunately no one bought the pineapples but she gained experience and she used that experience to try again and she succeeded.
8. Setbacks are included in the price tag of success;
Failures teach tenacity and provide experiences that let us achieve our goals with compassion and dignity. Failure is the opposite of Success but sometimes we need to fail before we achieve success because nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes and they often make it harder to achieve success. Every failure teaches us something and we can learn from them to improve ourselves and be better next time. Most successful people today went from many failures in their lives but they didn’t give up and they strive harder to achieve success. No pain, no gain.
9. If you have made a positive difference in one individual’s life,
You have succeeded in making a positive difference for many! The story of life doesn’t only revolve on ourselves, we meet people, and we deal with other people. People play a big part in our lives, almost all of our lifetime we spend it with other people. If we want to achieve success, we cannot do it alone and we need help from others. This means that if you help a person there’s a possibility that you already helped someone that he/she is going to help. We need to help each other in this world and spread love. In the video the mother helped her daughter to be innovative and some generous people saw the potential of the daughter and helped her daughter so it’s like the daughter has already helped her mother because she was given aid from generous people to finish college.
10. Whether it takes ten minutes, a hundred plans, or a lifetime, we can achieve our goals
Only if we take a stand and begin. Our Creator provides the talent, desire, and a limited number of chances to show up at the starting line. Today is another of those chances. We should not procrastinate and do things as early as possible because the early bird catches the worm. We should clear our minds of distractions and focus on our goals and we must always think of our priorities before anything else. We must also believe in ourselves that we can achieve our goals and be successful in life.
11. Passion behind a clear goal is a powerful force.
You can gain enormous control over that force by focusing on one small step that you need to take. We should always think of the present and not get stuck in the failures of the past because the past will really slow down the focus on achieving the goals. We should make the past an experience and the future our goal. We should also give passion in everything that we do because it will be the fuel in order to achieve success.
12. The Creator placed the seeds of success in the exact place
We would need them; they live inside of us, waiting to germinate, grow, and blossom.
The Creator has given us all talents and abilities to nurture and use in order for us to achieve our goals. It really depends on us if we are going to make use of it in a smart way or waste it into nonsense.

James Allen (1864-1912), wrote, “Dream lofty dreams, and as you dream, so shall you become. Your Vision is the promise of what you shall one day be. Your Ideal is the prophecy of what you shall at last unveil.”

Can you remember a moment when a dream first came to life within your heart and mind?
Perhaps you have a new dream tugging at you now–a desire that you cannot forsake.
If so, focus your attention on your vision. You have the first ingredient for achievement, a dream. Your dream–the blueprint of your future–is all you need to begin. We should always believe and follow our dreams.

I have never heard of anyone dreaming of failure or aspiring to be unsuccessful. Failure does not play any part in dreaming. It is the dreamer that instills failure, not the dream. I have read of many very successful dreamers that failed numerous times before they experienced success. The difference is that failure was not going to end their dreams only motivate them to dream bigger.
Many of you fail to seek your purpose in life and you should. You dream and then follow it up with a list of all the reasons why the dream is unachievable. You fill your life with excuses and "I can't." The only true limits you experience in life are those you create or those you allow others to impose upon you. If you can dream it, you can do it!
"Sometimes when we read the words of those who have been more than conquerors, we feel almost despondent. I feel that I shall never be like that. But they won through step by step by little bits of wills, little denials of self, little inward victories by faithfulness, and in very little things. They became what they are. No one sees these little hidden steps. They only see the accomplishment, but even so, those small steps were taken. There is no sudden triumph, no spiritual maturity. That is the work of the moment." Amy Carmichael quoted in: Tim Hansel, Holy Sweat, 1987,Word Books Publisher, p. 130.
Dreaming is the easy part. Acting on the dream is harder. Recognize that a dream is a journey. On the simplest level, it takes commitment, time, desire, and courage. But rarely is something great easily realized. We should never give up on our dreams because someday it might come true and we must always do our best every time and exert effort.

Compassion is the response to the suffering of others that motivates a desire to help.
Compassion is really the act of going out of your way to help physical, spiritual, or emotional hurts or pains of another. Compassion is often regarded as having an emotional aspect to it, though when based on cerebral notions such as fairness, justice and interdependence, it may be considered rational in nature and its application understood as an activity based on sound judgment. The etymology of "compassion" is Latin, meaning "co-suffering." More involved than simple empathy, compassion commonly gives rise to an active desire to alleviate another's suffering. In the movie the some people helped the daughter to go to college because she has potential and deserving to be helped and not only because of pure compassion. We must always remember to help anyone in need but sometimes we have to choose very carefully especially those who really need help and more deserving to get help.  We must show compassion to everyone regardless of their race, skin color, language because we are all humans and we are all equal in the eyes of our Creator. The English noun compassion meaning, “To love together with”. Love is the foundation of compassion. I learned that we must love everyone because where there is love, there is goodness. Being a good person doesn’t mean we don’t make any bad acts, we just need to let Love and Goodness prevail in our hearts in order for us to show other people how to be a good person. In the video clip, Love is the reason why the mother made the iced pineapple because she loved her daughter so much that even though she cannot buy her daughter some ice cream because of extreme poverty she tried her best and made it possible using her creativity. The daughter decided to sell her iced pineapple to the market because she wanted to help her mother and the daughter loved her mother and wanted to help her to get some income. When the daughter sold her pineapple, the people loved it because it’s healthy and new to the eyes of the people. Some people loved the daughter’s idea and helped her to finish college. In the video, not only hard work and innovation helped the daughter to achieve her goals but also with the help of Love and Compassion. I really learned a lot in this video clip like on how to be more creative and never give up on our dreams. The daughter is really an inspiration to many.
